Realistic Tips for Quick and Healthy Meals at Home

Can you relate? Juggling the chaos of daily life, especially as a mom of two teenage boys and raising horses here in Montana, in blizzard season which makes things even more challenging… prioritizing healthy meals and taking the time to prepare food that’s holistic can seem overwhelming.

So, that’s why I wanted to give you some of the practical tips I use for incorporating quick and nutritious meals without making the entire process an inconvenience, especially for those with limited time.

🥬 Locally Sourced Produce (organic if you can):

Opting for locally sourced vegetables is a smart choice, even if the additional trip to the farmer's market might seem like a bit much. If you have a local co-op, or neighbors that grow veggies that you don’t, that can be a great option! While it adds an extra step, the freshness and nutritional value justify the effort.

🥩 Smart Meat Choices:

Choosing grass-fed beef and antibiotic-free poultry is the ideal, but let's face it – scouring the aisles for them isn't always a breeze. And some stores don’t even have those options at ALL (crazy). If you cannot source meat from your own local butcher/farmer, try to look on the labels for these things. The benefits they bring to the table, both in terms of leanness, more wholesome nutrition, and omega-3 content, is worth it.

🍣 River-to-Table Salmon:

Have you heard all the buzz around salmon? If you’re going to eat salmon, be sure that you know where it came from! Find salmon that is fresh caught. Not farm raised.

🦠 Kick Preservatives to the Curb:

Good grief, I could go on and on about this one… but eliminating preservatives may do a LOT of good for your overall health!! Some people may be sensitive or allergic to certain preservatives, experiencing symptoms such as headaches, hives, or gastrointestinal issues. And in some cases, the interaction between certain preservatives and naturally occurring compounds can lead to the formation of nitrosamines, which are potential carcinogens. How wild is that? I know that scrutinizing labels can be a bit of a headache. However, the payoff – reduced inflammation and sustained energy levels – might be worth the minor hassle.

🧑🏻‍🍳 Chef's Delivery Daydream:

Fantasizing about a personal chef delivering tailored meals? lol! ME TOO! Especially when making healthy choices feels like an ongoing juggling act.

Of course, these are all wonderful if you can do ALL of them. But, if you need to start small, maybe implement one thing at a time and try to improve as you go! It doesn’t have to be all or nothing! 🍏

PS: I’m curious… would you subscribe to a food delivery service that met ALL of these holistic requirements if it were affordable & fresh (never frozen) delivered to your door? Let me know!
